How to Make the Migos Hotel Lobby AI Video (COLORS Show Tutorial)

By Summrs Team5 min read

The Performance That Broke COLORS

If you have been anywhere near hip-hop TikTok or YouTube in the last four years, you have seen this clip. Quavo and Takeoff standing side by side on the COLORS stage, trading bars over the Hotel Lobby beat, Quavo hitting every ad-lib while Takeoff delivers his verse with the kind of effortless energy that made Migos what they were. The video has over 112 million views on YouTube — the third most watched A COLORS SHOW performance of all time, behind only Oxlade's KU LO SA and Yamê's Bécane.

The performance was released on June 17, 2022, billed as Unc and Phew — the duo name Quavo and Takeoff used while Offset was estranged from the group. It was the first video in a COLORS series celebrating Black Music Month, produced in collaboration with Motown Records. The on-set crew was entirely Black creatives, directed by Munachi Osegbu with cinematography by Sade Ndya Young.

Why This Clip Keeps Getting Shared

COLORS is a Berlin-based music platform with over 5 million YouTube subscribers and nearly 2 billion total views. The format is the same every time — artist on stage, solid color background, one microphone, no distractions. That minimalism is the entire point. Time Magazine called COLORS a "rising powerhouse for music discovery" and noted that their monthly views outpace the numbers MTV's Total Request Live put up in its 1999 heyday.

The format works because there is nowhere to hide. No dancers, no set design, no camera tricks. It is just the artist and the song. When it hits, it hits hard — Billie Eilish was 15 years old with 35,000 subscribers when she filmed her COLORS session. That video now has over 24 million views. Jorja Smith's Blue Lights performance has 138 million views — more than 10x the official upload.

Hotel Lobby is in that tier. The performance works because Quavo and Takeoff have a chemistry that is impossible to manufacture. Quavo punctuates every line of Takeoff's verse with ad-libs, backing him up the entire way through. Takeoff barely moves but commands the frame. It is two people who have been making music together since they were teenagers, and it shows.

The clip resurfaced hard in June 2026 when COLORS reposted it on TikTok — 1.4 million views, 265,000 likes, 19.74 percent engagement rate. That kind of engagement on a four-year-old clip tells you it still resonates.

What Makes This Performance Hard to Recreate

The COLORS stage looks simple — solid background, clean lighting, two artists. But the simplicity is deceptive. The setup uses professional diffused lighting designed to make artists pop against the monochrome backdrop without harsh shadows. The color temperature is carefully controlled so skin tones read naturally against the background. The camera work is steady, deliberate, usually a single locked-off wide with subtle push-ins.

If you try to fake this with a green screen at home, the lighting gives it away immediately. Your face will have different shadow direction, different color cast, different contrast than the COLORS stage. The solid background amplifies every mismatch because there is nothing else in the frame to distract from it.

That is the gap AI fills. Instead of trying to match the lighting yourself, the AI analyzes the COLORS footage and composites your face with matched lighting direction, color temperature, and skin tone rendering. The result looks like you were actually on that stage.

How to Make It

Using Summrs with the Hotel Lobby template:

1. Pick your version

Two options — the standard Hotel Lobby template with the core clip, or the extended version with more of the performance. The extended version gives you a longer video with more of the back-and-forth between Quavo and Takeoff.

2. Upload a photo

Clear, well-lit photo of your face and upper body. Front-facing or slight angle works best. Phone selfies are fine if the lighting is even — avoid harsh overhead shadows or backlit photos. The AI uses your photo to generate the face swap, so clarity matters more than resolution.

3. Generate

Processing takes a few minutes. The AI handles face detection, lighting matching, skin tone adjustment, and compositing automatically. No manual editing, no frame-by-frame work, no After Effects.

4. Download and post

No watermark. Native resolution. Ready for TikTok, Reels, Shorts, stories, or group chats.

The Legacy Behind the Clip

This performance carries weight beyond the view count. It was released four months before Takeoff was lost in November 2022 at the age of 28. It is one of the last major recorded sessions featuring him alongside Quavo — two members of a group that defined a generation of rap with the triplet flow, the ad-libs, and a run that included Bad and Boujee, Walk It Talk It, and three Culture albums.

In September 2026, Quavo confirmed that he and Offset are working on a final Migos album with posthumous Takeoff verses, plus a supporting tour. The announcement put the group back in the cultural conversation and sent fans back to the performances that defined the era — including this one.

The 2023 BET Awards saw Quavo and Offset reunite onstage for the first time to perform Hotel Lobby and Bad and Boujee as a tribute. The moment was raw. The song carried new meaning. That is part of why the clip continues to resurface — it is not just a performance, it is a timestamp.

Who Is Making These

The format works for everything the original clip's energy supports:

Music promos — Announce a single, tease a project, build anticipation. The COLORS format carries credibility because people associate it with artists who are about to break through.

Friend groups — Put your crew on the COLORS stage. The two-person format of Hotel Lobby makes it natural for duos.

Memes and content — Swap any two faces into the performance. The internet has been doing this with the clip since it went viral.

Tributes — The Takeoff connection gives it a memorial dimension. Some of the most shared versions are fans putting themselves alongside Takeoff as a tribute.

Standard vs Extended — Which One

The standard template captures the hook and core energy of the performance in a shorter clip. Better for TikTok, Reels, and quick shares where you want the immediate impact.

The extended version includes more of the performance — more verses, more of the Quavo and Takeoff back-and-forth, more of the ad-lib energy. Better if you want a longer video for YouTube, a full promo clip, or just want more of the performance.

Both use the same AI process. Upload one photo, pick your version, generate.
